Polish Christmas Tradition
We would eat dinner at my Grandpa and Grandma’s house every Christmas. This was before my Grandpa, also known as Papa, passed away. We all sat around one round table, firmly packed around with people. There would also be one open chair, yet no-one ever sat there. After the plates would be picked up and go into the dishwasher a piece of hay would be revealed. There was hay underneath each and every plate, even the plate where no food touched. The hay represented where Jesus was born, the hay from in the manger in which Jesus was born in. The plate that no one touched also had a meaning. The plate was for Jesus to come sit and join us for our Christmas dinner. These religious traditions came from Poland. My Grandma and Grandpa brought the traditions with them and passed them on through my Dad and now onto me. These traditions should be shared because I think it’s important for others to know all kinds of religions, and to learn where they come from and that everyone has different traditions. I feel represented by this object because it is a part of me. Since it's where I come from, I find that it represents who I am through my religion.
