Playa
The beach is a very important place for my family because, for my birthday, we all go there to celebrate every single year. We always head out on the exact same day. My dad's friends, my aunts, and their families all join us there. We grill meat, the men go fishing, and the rest of us stay in the ocean—playing and swimming. This is an annual ritual, and to be honest, I really love it; it truly feels like a tradition. There is music, and sometimes we even stay to watch both the sunrise and the sunset. When the men return from fishing, the women all make a soup the next day; we eat right there at the water's edge and spend the rest of the day—and often the night—right there on the beach. We have repeated this same routine at about ten different beaches—almost every summer and for every one of my birthdays.
