Photograph of Grandmother
This photo is of my grandmother, Gail, as a young girl in New Jersey after immigrating to the US. Her father immigrated to the U.S. from Ireland. Many events including the Potato Famine, before my great-grandfather, Richard, came, and World War II, around the time he came, were push factors. Economic opportunities pulled my great-grandfather to immigrate to the U.S.. It took time for the Irish to feel like they belonged, and they did this by growing as a community. My grandmother and I had close bond until she passed away when I was 4, she was the sweetest person and holds a big place in my heart.
