In this picture we are celebrating one of our birthdays. When I look at these pictures I see that we are a family, something that my parents always wanted and what they have here in the United States. Although we are their family here their families are back home in Mexico. My mother has not seen her mother in twenty years but my dad has been able to reunite with his mother only as a result of deportation. These pictures take me back to when I was younger and before what I know what it meant to have immigrant parents, before living in fear everyday. As I look at the objects in the picture I see the birthday cake which we enjoyed but cannot help but think about how this was something neither of my parents experienced growing up.
