My father’s immigration story is something different from that of others. He would tell me that he didn’t want to leave Greece, because of his friends and family, and the idea of leaving everything that he ever knew. He would sometimes joke about it, but I can tell that behind his eyes is an actual pain. They came to America in 1974, and my dad had a tough time adjusting to the Amercian lifestyle. He had lived in a big city (which I was lucky enough to later see) where buildings were stacked on buildings, to a place where the houses are spaced out. In the US, kids would make fun of his accent when he went to school. But, things got better when he met my mom and my sisters.
