Pendant necklace

I watched a video by Dipika Mukherjee and her object was a charm bracelet. My object is a circular glass pendant necklace. It is dyed vibrant hues of turquoise, lime green, pale pink, and indigo. The pattern of a circling phoenix is engraved in the smooth glass. Long beyond the brink of my memory, my parents had bought it for me in China. I don’t recall anything else about its origin, but I do remember that it was always precious to me. I was born in Beijing and as a four-year-old, I moved to the United States, taking my necklace with me. I have kept it under my pillow ever since, to provide a distraction from many subsequent nights when sleep evaded me. I would hold it in my palm, running my fingers around its smooth glass and intricate ridges, until I eventually fell asleep. Even though I fall asleep quickly now, my special object reminds me of what I was like as a little kid as well as my ties to my culture.
