Peace Symbol Necklace
My family artifact is a necklace with a peace symbol on it. It is about the size of a quarter and is made of gold. The object was given to my grandpa from my grandma when they were engaged. It is important to my family because it was a symbol that was popular at the time because the Vietnam War was going on and people were protesting and selling these. About ten years ago, my grandpa wore the necklace and decided to go swimming at a very small and rocky cove. That day there were also lots of rough waves. When his swim was over, he realized he had lost the necklace. Two years later, my grandma decided to go for a swim at the same rocky cove. The day was May 20th, which happens to be my brother's birthday. She was standing in the water, which was about to her ankles. When she looked down, she saw something glittering in front of her toes. She bent down to pick up the object she could not believe her eyes when she saw it was the peace symbol without the chain. The interesting thing is that it was like it was waiting there for her. When she gave it back to my grandpa, he could not believe his eyes either and said, “Maybe someday when you go swimming there again you will find the chain, too!”
