Story pending

My grandfather, Thomas Cummins, arrived in The United States of America from Ireland 70 years ago. He grew up in Roscommon Country , located in the center of Ireland. He ran his family farm and took care of the goats, cows, and chickens. However, when his parents died they gave the farm to his brother. His friend had tickets to go to the United States and would not be going because he was staying in Ireland and getting married. So when his friend had offered him tickets to go to America he said yes to find new opportunities in life. My grandfather went through Ellis island in December of 1953 and became an American citizen. He later found work as a maintenance worker. He met my grandmother and shortly after got married. They settled on the east New Jersey coast. They had seven children and ten grandchildren. My grandfather  sadly passed away in 1998. My artifact is my grandfather's passport. It is important to my family because it shows the beginning of our family's American Legacy and represents and reminds us of our Irish heritage.
