Passport

Relationship: Child of im/migrant

My object is my grandma’s passport. She came from Dominican Republic to the United States of America in 1972. She was a child traveling with her family. She came because she was a women that wanted to work and wanted more job opportunities. Her father had just died and she was looking to change her life.
This passport is important because it was with her throughout her journey to America. This passport is more than paper.. it is her story.
A passport is very important to the United States immigration. It’s important because it allows someone legally to come to a country and start fresh. I picked my grandma’s passport because without this passport, her life and my life would be very different. Even though my grandmother experienced many bad things in America she never regretted coming. I am proud of the risk that she took for her and her family. This passport speaks volumes.
