Over the Rainbow
When I was little, my grandpa (I called him Popo) and I would watch The Wizard of Oz every time I went to his house. I’d sit on his lap on his brown recliner, eat black licorice, and sing every song that played. “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” like most people was my favorite song so he and I would be so loud when it played. It was our special song.
He was my idol, the greatest man I knew, and genuinely my hero. This man went from being in the Navy to getting drafted into the Army while still serving. He traveled all over the world and would bring back items from his travels and tell us all types of stories. Even with all of the wonderful memories The Wizard of Oz will always be my favorite with him.
When he passed, it hit me hard, I didn’t think it was possible but here we are, now our movie is the best made and that song somehow never ceases to make me a little teary.
My best friend knew this and for my birthday two years ago she got me this music box to keep with my picture of him, someday I hope to give the same box to my child not only because it's from his/her aunt but because it represents their happy memories from when their mom was their age. And hopefully, fingers crossed, they can make memories from it too and it will mean something to them.
