Nossa Senhora de Fátima
My mom immigrated to this country at a very young age. Bouncing back and forth between Brazil and Portugal, she lived months to even a year at a time without both of her parents or all of her siblings. When she was six she left behind everything and everyone she knew, not knowing what was ahead. While she felt unprepared she never anticipated all the opportunities that this country would bring her. The young girl who arrived to this country in short sleeves and shorts in the middle of winter, never thought that she would learn english, go to college and become a lawyer. It’s funny to think that years ago my mother felt like an outsider in this country. While she still insists that her Portuguese and Brazilian roots living within her, she proudly states that the United States is her home country.
