This necklace belonged to my great great grandmother, and was passed down in our family. She was a very private person, and didn't share any stories about her life in Ukraine or her life before immigrating to the United States. She didn't bring any photos, and came here only when she was only 16, with nothing. When she died, she took part of our history with her. We never knew much about her, and we never will. Now, every year, we make it a point to get together and talk about the past. We talk about grandparents, and show photos, and remember our history. The necklace reminds us who started the family we have now and how important it is to pass on our stories to each other, so we never forget our culture.
