My grandparents were born in Peru where they lived a harsh life of constant hard labor. They came to the United States in the year 1990 with my uncle and aunt, but not with my father as he still had to finish school. After some time in the year 2000, my parents migrated here and they were only supposed to stay for a couple months but my mother ended up getting pregnant with me and they decided to stay here so that I could have a better life because there's a lot of crime and violence that happens in Peru. I was the first in my family to be born in America and my grandparents often showed me the most love out of all the grandchildren. In the year 2018, my grandma was finally able to get her papers to go back to visit Peru which is where she made it a goal to get me a gold necklace and a bracelet that has my name engraved on it. Although she was suffering with arthritis, she managed to walk everywhere to find the perfect jewelry for me. She gifted me them on my 17th birthday and to me they mean a lot because of my family's origin, where we come from, and how far we've made it. A year later they revoked her citizenship but she was just glad she was able to see her hometown, family, and get me a souvenir to remember her forever.
