Nana's Ring
My Nana's father came to America from Ireland, dirt poor as most immigrants were. She remembers how cold and cruel Chicago winter's were at the start of her life. Her father's first job was a janitor for a radio company. After years and years, he slowly worked his way up to a better position in the company. Still, it was just enough to get by. Until one day the head of the company crossed paths with him. They started talking about ideas for the company and the head liked what he had to say. Fast forward a year or two and he's one of the leads in the company. When my Nana graduated high school she got this ring from him, his first big paycheck. She gave it to her daughter when she graduated and then to me. A symbol of the hard work that gave us what we have today.
