My uncle's watch
My family was always filled with hard-working men and women. They were working day and night to provide for their relatives, wives, and children so that those in the future could enjoy a more prosperous life. My uncle, Dennis Lenoard McConnell, born in 1950 in London, was just a man like that. He was in the British Navy in his early career. He met my Aunt, Sandie, in Cornwall, UK. They married and moved to Wakefield in 1973. He had his own business where he made kitchens, and was a self-made man, working until 2021 when he developed cancer and now is unable to work. He has a son, Daniel, who lives in Oldham, and a daughter, who lives in Dubai. He has two grandsons.
He worked endlessly to provide for his family. My mother, my late grandfather, and all those from my mother's side were never wealthy, but they worked no matter what. He is kind, and would always help people if he could, and he would often. He always loved cars, racing especially. He loves fishing and is a wonderful family man.
In 2022, I flew to the United Kingdom to visit my grandmother whom I hadn’t seen in nearly three years. She and I went to visit my uncle, who gave me a prized possession, a watch that he loved, and that I will continue to wear every day. Much like how it was my uncle's pride, it is my pride.
