My special photo
The special object to me is a photo from when my dad was young. At this time my dad was poor and photos were expensive especially during the Salvadoran Civil War. It's different to see him and think of him as a young kid. A kid who had to experience war, a kid who had to see his friends, family and acquaintances die, due to it. To think he was in the age in which he should have been studying, in high school specifically, yet he had lived more than a person lives in a lifetime. It Makes me think about what it would be like if some of my friends where in war, escaping the country, being persecuted, and I just can't imagine any friend, classmate, stranger, that age being in that situation, it seems like two completely different worlds, yet all that happened to him. ……. I found this photo while visiting El Salvador. My grandmother had it hidden under many drawers she had forgotten about. After my cousin’s curiosity and persistence, we found photos of all of our parents when they were our age. Seeing it made me see him in a completely different perspective. It Made me feel like he was a new person. Whenever he would talk about himself in the situations the war put him through it didn't sound like a young boy, but a grown man, and seeing this picture really screwed up that perspective I had. A young boy was the one making these adult decisions that would ultimately end up in his death, or a large step forward.
