MY SERVILLETA

Relationship: Im/migrant

My object is a servilleta.  It was made in México. It is made of a blanket and thread. My grandma taught my mom, and my mom taught me how to make it with our own hands in different colors. It is used to wrap tortillas. Tortillas are the main food in México. We make a lot of dishes with tortillas, like tacos, enchiladas, nachos, quesadillas, flautas, tostadas, chilaquiles, and chalupas. We make tortillas by our own hands too. So when l finish making my tortillas l wrap them, because the tortillas are still warm and soft.  A servilleta is any size. It is used to wrap tortillas, but is also used to cover tables and coffee tables too. I still use a servilleta because it reminds me of my food, and l still preserve my culture.  l teach my children that my country’s food is delicious, and that Mexican food is number one.  It has passed from generation to generation.
