My object is a Mola. A Mola is a fabric made for clothing decoration, furniture, and much more. Mola’s are usually pictures of nature or animals.Usually the way a mola can be used for furniture is if you sew or stitch the fabric to a chair, couch or table and more. Mola’s were originally created in an indigenous panamanian tribe called Guna Yala which live in the san blas, which is a region of islands in panama. The specific Mola that I have was hung on my wall before I was even born. My immediate family uses the mola’s that I have only for decoration but most of my extended family, many who live in Panama, use them for clothing, decoration, and furniture.     The reason I chose a mola for my object is because it is a common object in panamanian culture and it shows how my culture is connected and in harmony with nature. These mola’s are connected to my grandma who immigrated to the United states in march 1957 when she was only 10. There is no specific date to when she immigrated because it took her multiple days to fully immigrate. But moving from Panama meant she only spoke Spanish so she had to learn English after immigrating to the U.S.     One question that I have is how molas are made and what does mola mean in the guna Yala language. I think molas are very beautiful and they show that I still remember my heritage and embrace it.
