Although I’ve never been to Guyana, it feels like home to me. I am part of the first generation of people born in America. Guyana is the only English speaking country in South America. Although it isn’t a very large or wealthy country, Guyana is still a great place to be. This flag represents everything that Guyana stands for. Green represents the agricultural and forested nature of Guyana. White symbolizes the rivers and water potential of the country. The golden arrow represents Guyana’s mineral wealth. Black portrays the endurance that will sustain the forward thrust of Guyanese people, and red represents the zeal and dynamic nature of nation-building while lies before the young and independent Guyana. My entire family and close relatives on my mother’s side told me about the flag and gave it to me. I connect everything I do with my family to this flag. Wherever I go with them or have a party or get together of any kind, the flag is right there. I’m very proud to be Guyanese and this flag brings me a sense of contentment knowing that I have a second place that feels like home even though I've never been there.
