My great-grandfather and neighbors

This photo is from the 70's. My great-grandfather is the man on the left who is wearing the poncho. The women are wearing traditional clothes from Ecuador.

They are Catholics and devotees of the Virgen de la nube. In May, they celebrate with their neighbors and attend mass. After the mass, there is a procession through the main streets of the town, carrying the image of the Virgin. Later, they drink a typical liquor, zhumir. It is very strong, and they drink it with some aromatic tea.

I love this photo because it is the only memory I have of my great-grandfather.
