My Grandfathers China Teacup
For my Your Story, Our Story project my object is a Chinese teacup. My object is red and gold and has a lid and a saucer. The teacup came from China where drinking tea is very important in their culture. These tea cups are special because they were the kind of tea cups given to Vladimir Putin, who is president of Russia, when he visited China. This also means that they must have been very expensive. When my mom first told me about these cups I was a little skeptical and confused because she called them Putin cups. When she clearly explained what they were to me I quickly recognized what she was talking about because she drinks out of them every Christmas with my grandpa. The reason I decided to use these cups for the assignment is because my grandpa, who was the person to receive these cups, migrated all the way to China and lived there for twenty years then went back to Cleveland. I'm very glad that my mom chose to tell me about these cups because now I know that my grandpa's side of the family was Russian. So now I guess I have some Russian in my blood. These cups mean a lot to me because they were my grandpas. He is such an amazing character and always a pleasure to be around, he has so many stories and interesting opinions to the point where all you want to do is listen. My mom now has the cups and I hope when I get older they can be passed down to me.
