My mom grew up in São Paulo, Brazil. She was quite poor growing up, but was always a very hard worker. She learned computer programming in Brazil and got a few jobs. She ended up moving to the United States and found work in computer programming. It was hard for her, since she was still learning English. "So" by Peter Gabriel was the first album she bought in America, and it helped her ease into American culture. She learned to speak English very well, found success as a computer programmer, and eventually met my father, an English immigrant, and they started a family. To this day, she is still a very hard worker, and this album reminds her of the struggles she has worked so hard to overcome. My mother's story inspires me. She achieved the American Dream by working so hard and finding success. This album will always serve as a reminder of how far she’s come, and what she will be able to achieve in the future. Without the hard work she has put in and the sacrifices she has made, I would not have the opportunities I have today. Her story inspires me to work as hard as I can to be the best I can be.
