Sitting down at the table with my family with some delicious Mole is different. It's one of those things that really makes me think about how lucky I am to be where I'm at now. It’s been in my family for years and is there every time our family is together. It wasn't always like that. My mother immigrated to the United States when she was only 17. She always had, and continues to have, a need to help everyone around her. She immigrated to be able to help her family. She went through a lot trying to cross the border from Mexico. She was caught 5 times and almost gave up trying. Each time she got caught, she began to lose hope, and thought about not trying anymore. Her determination and her desire to help, got her through it. She came and made it to the US. It was extremely difficult. She was sad, alone, and confused. She didn’t have anyone beside my father.  All she could think about was the delicious Mole and her mother’s hugs. My mom got through it. She had me just a year after. She is now a resident in California and was able to see her family and come back. She graduated and got her GED. She proved to all of her family she could do anything she wanted to do. Her strength and courage throughout her immigrating, inspires my whole family to  be a better person, finish school, and be thankful for what they have.
