Mink Fur Coat
This is my grandmother's fur coat. My great great grandfather had a tiny fur business in Russia, and moved it to Germany . When World War II broke out my great grandfather was able to move to England because a branch of his business was there. The holocaust had destroyed most of the business so he had to rebuild it. He was very successful and the business was known as "Anglo American Fur's". My grandfather and his 2 brothers took over the business. While his brother remained in Europe my grandfather moved to New York City to continue growing the business. The business continued to thrive until furs were no longer desirable and the 3 brother decided to sell the company. My grandfather had many fur coats made for my grandmother but this is my favorite and it tells a great story beyond its appearance. The fur coat is also engraved with her initials I.A. making it even more personal. As fur coats started to become out of fashion my grandfather sold the business so this coat means a lot to me and my family because it shows how my family was able to rebuild after the holocaust. No matter how tough things got they never gave up and in the end it paid off.
