Military Burial Flag

Group:

My family's American history first started when my grandpa came to Chicago when he was two years old from Arecibo, Puerto Rico where he was born. I would say my grandma would be the most representative of my culture because she is always cooking foods from my culture, carrying on  the traditions and continuing to speak the language. My grandpa served in the military from 1968-1972 and became a Vietnam veteran. My object is an American flag they presented to my mom at his funeral. He had a military burial and was buried at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Joliet, Illinois. Today, the flag is surrounded by candles in my living room as a way to honor my grandfather and his sacrifice. This flag is very important to me because it helps me remember such an honorable man and his sacrifices, my  grandfather who passed away. It also symbolizes strength, unity and love. My mom feels my grandfather watches over us and protects our home from above. Although I never had the chance to know my grandfather, I really am proud to know that I had a hero in my family.
