    My family carries the history of two different Caribbeans, one an island the other a country. My father is from Puerto Rico, my mother is from Guyana. My father was brought to the US as a baby while my mother came later in life. They both have a long rough history and relationship with the US. However, they both express their gratitude for the life they have achieved even when I believe, as their child, that the place they call home does not welcome them. My parents sadly do not carry objects that represent their travels due to losing them in tragic events but they do carry pictures that represent their matriarchs. The people that taught them life, the people they wish to honor each day, the people they are proud of
