My father's mug; now my son's

This mug belonged to my father, Martin Stanley Weininger. I remember it being in our summer house in Michigan City, IN. My father died in 1984 when I was nine. A few years before, new neighbors moved onto our block, Marty and Debbie Schwartz. With the sad business of my house, Marty and Debbie became my babysitters and I became their children's babysitter; we have remained life-long friends. After my father's death, a few items that were imprinted with the name “Marty" were given by my Mom to Marty Schwartz; he loved this mug. On October 22, 2017, I gave birth to a baby boy and my husband and I named him Martin after my Dad. A few days after he was born, Marty and Debbie visited us in the hospital. They brought with them a baby gift in a little bag. Inside was the mug. I hadn't seen it in so many years. Marty said he had always made sure to treat it well. He never wanted anything to happen to it, and now it was being gifted back to our family for our new baby Marty. There are few things in our home that I care about more, and few gifts I have ever received that have been more meaningful.
