Christmas 2013. A young, smurf looking, wide eyed boy runs down the stairs followed by his 2 smaller sisters . His steps are loud and powerful despite his weight of about 65 pounds. “MOOOM, DAD Santa came!!”. As his parents slowly rise out of bed he discusses with his siblings the presents they are yet to open. “Why are you guys up so late?! It's Christmas” exclaims the boy's little sister. “It's 6:13 AM” replies the boy's father.” “lets go” the boy proclaims in excitement. The boy, me if you couldn't tell, ended up unboxing the lego harry potter Hogwarts castle. When I opened that box and built that castle I knew I had something special. My dad and I put it together while listening to music and eating snacks. Ever since then, legos have been a source of connection, literally helping me to build my relationships with people and myself. When I was little, I’d build legos with my friends. Now, I build them with my 4 year old brother. Even now, I’ll build legos as a way to unwind and relax. For me legos have been a tradition and a way to construct my life and relationships with people. They’re consistent, make sense and fit like a puzzle. This is helpful to me when sometimes, life is confusing and not everything feels like it fits.
