The carnival in Dominican Republic is a dominican celebration that takes place throughout the month of February.The 'Diablo Cojuelo' (in english it means the limping devil) is one of the main characters. The story behind this character is the he was thrown on earth and as that happened he broke his leg which caused him to limp and thats where he gets his name from. It is said that the mask is supposed to represent the Spaniards who came to the country and enslaved and hurt the natives. Besides using this specific masks people walk down the street with colorful masks and dance to bachata and merengue.
