La Chancleta
One of the thing that each member of my family will recognize and remember is “la Chancleta”. It is not more than a common flip flop, but it has been a disciplinary tool for children, to show them discipline and obedience. La Chancleta is basically a punishment for not obey our mothers especially after they have reproofed us and we didn’t listen. Although it is mostly used to warn or threatened us to do, not do, or to stop doing something bad. I think the weather has to do a lot with la Chancleta since it is always warm in Dominican Republic, we almost all the time wear flip flop, so mothers usually have them close and ready to attack any time we are misbehaving. I particularly didn’t get la Chancleta many times just a couple of times, and I think this help to understand that being spoiled and a bad kid won’t lead to something good.
