Kiddush Cup

My object is my great-grandfather Poppy Sam’s kiddush cup. My great-grandfather bought the kiddush cup in Brooklyn in 1972. A kiddush cup is used to hold wine on Shabbat and on Jewish holidays. It used to be used by my great-grandfather but now we use it on Friday nights. It’s made of sterling silver. One of the reasons it is special to me is because it has his initials “S.K.” engraved in it for Samuel Kaufman.
I chose this kiddush cup because it represents how important it means to me to be Jewish. This kiddush cup teaches me that making the brachah on wine is very important to my religion. Using my great-grandfather’s kiddush cup is meaningful because it connects me to my ancestors. My great-grandfather was born in the United States and lived in New Jersey and then moved to New York.
One question that I have about the kiddush cup is why did my great-grandfather buy this specific kiddush cup at that specific place. This kiddush cup means a lot to my family so in the future I would like to continue to pass it on to future generations.
