Kathy White House Book
My great-great-aunt’s story of coming to America is interesting and one of the reasons I am here today. I am focusing on my mom’s side of the family. My great-great-aunt’s name is Kathy Buckley. She grew up in Listowel, Ireland. A man’s family whose grandparents lived across the street from her in Ireland recently became interested in writing a book about her life when Kathy’s possessions were passed down to him from her niece. It is that book that I have included a picture of as it has recently been published.
Kathy was somewhat famous in her small town in Ireland so her story lives on. She only went to school up until 7th grade and then started working in kitchens in Ireland as a cook. She eventually worked in a hotel where she met JP Morgan. He liked her food so much that he requested she move from Ireland to New York to be his chef. She agreed and came over to America on a boat. She was the first person in her family to come to America and she inspired 4 of her siblings to come as well. Her sister, named Mary, came to America and met my great-great-grandfather. Kathy worked for JP Morgan until his death and then through his connections became the head chef at the White House for two presidents!
