Ka’
When I was little, my mother and my grandmothers used the Ka' to grind rice or corn to make the dough for tortillas or rice tamales that are so delicious. My father had to immigrate to the United States 15 years ago. After 13 years my mother, brother and I also immigrated to this country due to economic problems. My family and I miss Guatemalan food because when using the Ka' the food has a different flavor that cannot be compared to what is prepared here, but due to the weight of the item we cannot bring it. When my mother was little they taught her to use ka' because in my culture, women have to learn how to use it to feed their families, my mother taught me to use it in Guatemala so she can pass it on to me when I’ll get married in the future, this is a tradition in my family since I can remember, but it makes me happy to be able to learn the customs of my country and to be able to savor the meals that are prepared with the Ka'.
