Junina Party Dress
This is my “Junina Party Dress". It is made of cotton fabric with many colors, flowers, and laces.
I liked it because my mother made it for me, when I was a child. These clothes represent people living in rural areas.
This festival was brought to Brazil by the Portuguese in the year 1500. The majority of the population being Catholic, this festival celebrates "St. John " with its rains and the harvest season of agricultural products. At this festival, there is a dance called “Quadrilha” where this attire is worn. This festival occurs throughout the entire month of June across the whole country, and children perform this dance in all the schools and also bring typical dishes made mainly from corn and others agricultural products.
I danced in the “Quadrilha” from kindergarten until the 4th grade of elementary school, It's was fun. However, I remember spending vacations at my grandparents' house in the rural area. I know my grandfather's family came from Portugal. There these foods were common at any time of the year I visited, as were their clothes.
Brigadeiro is a typical candy in my country, it’s made of condensed milk, butter, chocolate powder and granulated. I grew up eating Brigadeiro and eat until today. I like this and remembered when I was a child and ate Brigadeiro only at birthday parties and I loved. My young sister works selling many types of Brigadeiros, I love it. You can to meet Brigadeiros on “ Festas Juninas” and for everything country too.
