immigration story
Project Description
The Family Oral History focuses on my father, who migrated from Yemen to the United States in the 1980s and worked as a police officer. His narration presents the difficulties that he encountered during the transition, the perseverance that he showed and his commitment to society. This story highlights the aspects of endurance, flexibility, and calling as civic servants and reflects our family’s concept. A lot of concepts from the course emerged from my fathers story including the roles he played which my he explained to me about him being a breadwinner and a defender at home as well as in the public domain as a member of the force. He also talks about stressors he encounter that people should not hide their backgrounds, but at the same time seek development and be useful to society.
