I Call Her Mamá

My mother, age unknown

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” – Proverbs 31:25-28

There aren’t better words to describe her. I call her Mamá and I look just like her. My best things are from her: my smile, my walk, all my strengths and virtues.

She has had a tough life raising five children and taking care of my Dad, who totally depends on her. But she always seems to have a smile and a delicious, special meal to put on the table every Sunday. I always think about her desserts and I can taste each one in my mind. I can say without a doubt that my Mamá is a beautiful person inside and out, and all my life I will live proud to be part of her being.

Now that I’m a Mom, too, I can understand that she gives me everything, without expecting anything in return. I pray to God that I have the time to give her back a little of the lot that she gives me every day. She is and will always be my forever warrior, my superhero.

Love you, Mamá…
