My object is an hourglass I bought from a bookstore back when I lived on Long Island. It is made of dark wood and has purple sand inside of it. It feels smooth and it makes me feel calm when I touch it and it relaxes me. The wood also has a swirling pattern and I think it looks beautiful and reminds me of the ‘Starry Night’ painting by Van Gogh, which also represents me because one of my favorite hobbies is drawing and painting. This is important to me because I love reading and I bought it from a bookstore I really liked, and I like writing and it inspires me and helps me be more creative. It represents my family because both my parents are scientists and have studied hard to achieve their jobs and PhD degrees’. My mother also enjoys writing in her spare time. My parents also write a lot of reports for their work and they work under a certain time limit for the reports, so the hourglass shows that as well. Studying and doing your best is very important in my family. It also reminds me of my old home back in New York, as that is where I moved from.
