Honduran Jewelry Set
I chose a Honduran jewelry set for my story. The jewelry is made from Honduran coins and was passed down to me from my grandma. The jewelry set includes earrings, a bracelet, and a necklace. It reminds my family about our culture and where our roots stem from. My grandma brought the jewelry when she immigrated to the U.S. from Honduras in 1978 and she was gifted the jewelry set by her mother. She came to the U.S. when she married my grandfather. He was born in Puerto Rico but lived in New York during his teenage years. My grandfather met my grandma when he visited Honduras for the first time. The two fell in love and got married. My grandma hoped to raise a family in the U.S. and receive better opportunities. It was hard for my grandma to leave her family behind and start a new life, but it was giving her children a better future that kept her going. My grandma’s determination allowed her to be strong when facing adversity. She worked hard to get a job and an education. Eventually, her hard work allowed her to bring my great-grandma to the U.S. This piece of jewelry is a sense of pride for my family and will continue to be in my family for many more generations.
