When I think of my childhood I always think of my grandmother and my mother kneading dough to create pasta, pizzas or desserts.Pasta and Italian food are the things that Italians who leave Italy miss the most. When I was little, every Sunday and on many celebrations my grandmother and my mother prepared the dough for many delicious things because for Italians, pasta and homemade food are a very important tradition. The dough starts from simple ingredients: flour, water, yeast and eggs.Although it was really hard work, grandmother was very happy to do these things for her family. The most beautiful thing was the lighting of the country oven. We children carried wood near the oven and when grandmother understood that the temperature was right she began to put things in the oven to cook pizzas, biscuits etc...while the pasta was placed on tables to rest for a few hours before cooking it.Every time the oven was turned on it was a celebration for all the neighbors who brought their food to be cooked in the large oven in exchange for helping grandmother in preparing and cooking the things needed for our celebrations. They are now distant memories but thinking about it now I still feel that scent of love.
