My father decided to cross the border and follow his dreams to obtain many things that he would not have been able to get in his past life in Mexico. His dream was to own a sports car and drive it back to the city in Mexico while playing these CDs. These CDs include many famous artists that remind him of his family while staying in the United States. This Immigration included his escape for his personal freedom, one of the push factors for Mexican Immigration. To get his dream car, he traveled there to get increased wages and employment opportunities. The result ended up getting his dream car but met my mom and decided to stick around to see where life would take him. A few years later, they started a family and headed back to Mexico while playing his authentic music in which he wanted all along. He got everything that he wanted and more from his long journey from Mexico. Today these CD’s are kept in a safe place, so he always has memories of his family, especially his dad and mom or, in this case, my grandparents. These CDs represent his most significant stepping stone in life and the beginning of his journey with my mom in a very new place. Every time we travel back to Mexico, these are the types of songs we listen to to support him for all the decisions he dared to take. When he first came here he “Americanized” by learning some English and many customs to fit in with the crowd but deep down he maintains his roots and keeps traditions within our family.
