Throughout my life,  habichuela con dulce has been one of the most memorable dishes from my home country Dominican Republic. It is a sweet dessert made out of beans, cookies, and yams . The beans are cooked and purified so  it makes this liquidy paste. Then the sugar is incorporated into the mix and  ingredients like yams, cinnamon, and  small vanilla cookies are also added. Habichuela con dulce is consumed during the holidays, specifically around Holy Week or Semana Santa. This is a week-long celebration where people commemorate the catholic religion and comply with  many other traditions.  Habichuela con dulce reminds me of home, considering I spent 9 years of my childhood in D.R. before migrating to the United States with my mother. It connects me to my culture because it's a widely popular dish that everyone eats around the holidays . It also has a delicious and sugary aroma which can be enjoyed amongst your beloved family members.
