Grandpa Ed's Dragonfly Lamp

Growing up, my grandpa Ed was practically the coolest person ever, at least to me. He would have big parties for holidays with a band and a pig roasting on a stick, even if it was for a small holiday. He built his own house, and he even would cut huge trees in the forest for Christmas! My family has had this lamp for awhile, but I never really knew the story behind it; I assumed it was just some lamp my family had. I learned about it when I was around 8 or 9. My grandpa made it in 2000 in a stained glass studio called “designed in glass” at Lake Spangenberg, PA. My chuchie (aunt) had it in her home, before she brought it with her to Oakland, California, and after that, she brought it to San Francisco. After it spent some good time in California, it was moved to Minneapolis into our house, and it has been here since. While this lamp doesn't have a relationship to immigration, migration, or cultural identity, it is still special, and holds a lot of memories and meaning to me. This lamp is very special to me and my family, and it is especially important because it was hand-made with a lot of love. I'm very happy that I get to look at it and think of my grandpa everyday.
