For my object I decided to do my grandmother’s China set, which has been passed down to my mom, and will be passed down to me. Growing up in Mexico, my grandmother rarely had the opportunity to own luxury items, and as a little girl she always wanted a nice China set. Before coming to the U.S. my grandma made a promise to herself that she would buy a China set. After getting married to my grandpa and settling in America she decided to go back to Mexico and get one. She got it from an old woman in Mexico who hand-crafted different types of plates and dishes. It took the woman about a week to complete it, but let’s just say it was worth the wait. Each item is intricately painted, and polished perfectly. The set has kept in shape all these years, and the blue is still as vibrant as it was the day my grandma got it. Once a year my mom and I take out the China set and have tea time with my grandma, and aunt. My aunt has matching silverware, made by the same woman in Mexico, that we use for special dinners. We use this time to catch up on life, and enjoy each other’s presence. These tea cups, and plates are more than just a China set, they symbolize that you can achieve anything you desire as long as you put in the work.
