Grandma's locket

The sky was shimmering with gold and fluffy clouds, the grass was the greenest it's ever been, and the breeze gently blew through the garden like it was a gleaming summer's day. Although, the crowded house felt bleak inside. There was a rainy cloud that hovered over each of the family members' heads. It was early August and my family filled each room as they awaited my grandma’s last breath. We were sure she wasn’t going to make it so we prepared as much as we could. I was given a gold locket with a picture of her smiling from ear to ear, her curly hair looking as lively as ever, and her eyes burning with love. I was surprised that the locket was gold and heavy, but then I remembered how much she was respected throughout the whole family. Our family values wealth and showing pride in our family name so it wasn’t that much of a shocker. Whenever I touch it it reminds me of the mainlands, Cambodia, where they came from. However, I’m not sure how they came. There are many details that are still a mystery and I don’t think anyone remembers the exact story.  My grandma was able to travel in a war with nine kids total by herself. I don't know how she did it. I’m sure they were memories that were supposed to be forgotten but I am eager to know more; the terrors follow her in her sleep yet they follow me curiously through each corner of my mind. But my curiosity only goes so far as the locket opens and closes.
