A special object to me is a gold chain that is about one foot long and kinda like a pendent there is a picture of Jesus engraved. This necklace was given to my mother by her mother. This necklace represents my family's culture and religion. Gold is huge in Egypt and when given it's kind of a big deal. The religious aspect of this necklace is that we are Coptic orthodox and Christian-like in many other religions, we believe Christ is the son of god. In Egypt, when you would get married, gold was given to the bride by the family. Unfortunately for my mother, her mother passed away when my mother was very young. My grandfather had kept that necklace close to his heart until it was time for my mother to get married. He gave the necklace to my father to give to my mother as an addition to the wedding gifts he had already prepared. My mother received this gift on the day of her engagement. When my parents migrated here from Egypt in 2006 my mother made it a priority to bring this necklace. She has been wearing this necklace on special occasions for a while now. This story is similar to others because it is common for a bride/woman to receive such gifts on special occasions such as weddings, graduations, and award ceremonies. But unlike others, my mother's gift was her mother's and given to my mother as a reminder to never forget where she came from and the gifts and culture that was given with that history.
