I am the only one in my family to need glasses. I am the one and only child from my mom’s side, but the youngest to half-siblings twice my age from my dad’s side. I am the only one in my family with a bright and ambitious future. In every aspect of my life, I truly stand out from my family, with my glasses seeing everything I’ve been through. As bad as my vision is, with a negative fourteen prescription, I can barely get through my day without these. Although it may seem insignificant, it makes me feel rather detached from my family. For most of my life, I’ve been shunned for my bad vision, which leads to more remarks about my flaws. With these glasses, I am reminded of how I was raised and what my parents have gone through to have me, and as my longest-held possession of mine, I will never forget its significance. They are the fruits of my endeavors, watching me grow, change, and improve, while also holding the rough past of me and my parents. Now, I believe I am creating a new generation for this family, one that grows out of the shell of normalcy and tradition into one of creativity and uniqueness, and I hope to show my parents that their efforts aren't for naught.
