Glass Heart Necklace

In Attire

This glass heart is the pendant to a necklace my grandma bought for me when I was about 7 or 8. She bought it when she was in Sicily, which is where my great grandfather (her father) emigrated from. He was only 12 years old when he came to the US, and he came all alone. He died at the age of 50, so my grandmother was only able to learn so much about her father before his death. This necklace was handmade by a local glass blower and is special to be as it ties be to my heritage and family. I had never met my great grandfather but this ties me to him in many ways.  This trip was especially memorable for my grandmother as she met some of her cousins that she had never known while she was there. It was a trip that helped both my grandmother and I grow closer to our heritage.
