In my country, the kites are named “Barriletes”, we made the kites by hand using bamboo sticks, tissue paper, glue and thread. The Kites could have different sizes, shapes and are colorful. We can make the kitties in our home with our family or friends. Kites are a special in our culture because when we were children we had fun making and flying the kites.

I remembered when I was child I went to find the bamboo and buy paper to make my kite at home with my family. We spent time together to make our kites. After we finished our kites, we went to fly the kites on the field. I have good memories of those days, however right now I am in another country and  this tradition is not common here.

We fly the kites during the month of October until November 2. In my country, we have a holiday to remember the people who have passed away named “Día de Todos los Santos” (Day of all Saints), that celebration is a mix between the Mayan and catholic traditions and it's celebrated on November 2. Usually on this holiday, people went to the cemeteries to paint the tombs, decorate the pantheons and eat traditional dishes. In addition another activity is flying the kites. The importance of flying the kites is that people believe that flying the kites on the cemeteries guides spirits at home and scare the bad spirits.

In the City of Sumpango, every year is celebrated the Kites Giant Festival. In that place, we can see very big and colorful kites, a lot of people travel to this festival to have fun.
