This doll has been in our family since 1865. My great-great-grandmother was a native French woman, whose mother gave her this doll on her 8th birthday. It was one of a kind because most French porcelain dolls were white, and this one looked just like her. When they immigrated to America for better opportunities, they met poverty and lost most of their money. My great-great-grandmother married in 1939 at just the age of 15 to my great-great-grandfather, who was a farmer in Texas. She kept this doll and gave it to my great-grandmother, and this influenced her to collect dolls. She lived on to have 9 kids, and teach them all French while she was still learning English. This doll means a lot to the family because it was one of few black French dolls that didn't portray a harmful image. Our family believes that this doll carries good luck due to the seller saying this doll once belonged to royalty
