Four Treasures of the Study
Four Treasures of The Study
Four treasures of the study are the unique calligraphy, painting, and writing tools of the world.
They are pen, ink, paper, and ink stone. They have a history of more than 5000 years. Writing brushes are made of sheep hair and rabbit hair. Ink stone is made of natural rock queried. Natural inkstones are very expensive so we use artificial inkstone. When we use it, we will put small amounts of water in the ink stone then grind it in the water where you will see the clear water turn into dark liquid after. We can then take the writing brush and stick it into a little bit of ink to write or draw on the paper.
I still remember when I was studied in school in China, all the students must take calligraphy lessons because it was important part of Chinese history and culture.
I live in the United States right now, but I will never forget the time when I took the calligraphy's lesson in China this was my favorite class in school. I have three children; they were born here. I also let them to learn how to use the writing brush to write, let them understand one of the Chinese cultures. They are very interested in practicing calligraphy with me together using the four treasures of the study to write. Although their handwriting is not very good, they all enjoy using different tools to write.
